Woodshed talk

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, Drivers, Owners, Crew Chiefs and NASCAR. And a good afternoon to the trouble makers, yes that would be the main stream media of NASCAR.
I am the Poet K. A. Steffek, some of you know who I am, most of you don't.

Let me start with the fact that I am a long time fan of this sport, and have seen some of the best dang racing from this series, but.

I am hear to speak to all of you today about a few things.

First I want to address the main stream media,
As I stand here today, I wonder just how long you will reuse the words that I speak to make your story last longer? I have since 2001 and the death of Dale Earnhardt, watched you take stories that should have been told with one week of reporting this sport, and stretched these stories to sell your ware, which is your right. But when you constantly stir up the pot, by bringing up matters that even the fans want to die, you are doing nothing more then starting trouble to make a profit, and that I have a problem with!
We all know by this point that Carl Edwards and Brad "the Brat" Keselowski won't be exchanging Christmas presents, and most of us are all right with this. Add Kevin Harvick thanks to one of ya'll getting him involved, and you stir the pot. We all have the confidence that they can Co-exist in this sport, Or Mr. Helton will invite them to the woodshed, and points, 12-4-A and possible suspension may ensue. Hey NASCAR said they were loosening the reins, not removing the headstall! But Please listen when I tell you, I am sick of the Main stream media, and ya'll know who you are, stirring the pot! So QUIT! Go back to being responsible media members, ask the questions that matter, not about the playground fight from two weeks ago.

Now to NASCAR,

I agreed with loosening the reins when ya'll asked, but I didn't think we were going from a Check rein to a cutting horse rein all at once, but I completely agree with your decision on the Carl/Brad matter.

Now I want to speak to the drivers,

Ya'll are so lucky on some days that you do not drive for me, because I would send bills for torn up race cars, when it was done with Stupidity! Now I realize that you are men, merely human and prone to let your emotions show, at the worst time. Something I am sure your wife's and girlfriends would probably agree with, and we understand. But You chose to be in this sport, no one made you, you are passionate men and I love that about you, but again I also expect you to act your ages! There are millions of children that inspire to be like you, some of you have children and you know they want to emulate you. And if they acted the way ya'll sometimes do, I believe a timeout would be in order, again something NASCAR and I agree one, Carl had one recently. I love the bumping, I love the banging, But I do not enjoy sitting and waiting for the safety workers to try to extricate you from your car, when you have gone airborne! There is a difference tween the bump and run, and wrecking someone, which can't be much fun! And both NASCAR and we the fans usually know the difference! We love you drivers, this sport, and all the action that when combined we get, But again we want good, hard racing, if you have an issue on the track, don't use a 3400 pound vehicle to enact your revenge, it's childish and beneath you. Take a page from NASCAR history, fight it out in the infield, not on the track!

Thank you for your time, and I hope you heard me.

So Pull those belts tight,
The greens gonna fly!
And this ain't no ordinary ride!

This is MY, YOURS, OUR NASCAR!

Statement from Poet

Now in NO way am I saying I agree with what Carl did on Sunday. But I know from experience, that in NASCAR, stupidity is usually in attendance. Let's face it, we're not talking $10.00 here, we are talking millions on the line, when it is all said and done. And to suspend an ENTIRE team, for one act of stupidity, would have been stupidity in action!
I also am willing to admit that when someone continuously runs into you, since coming into Sprint Cup, I too would more then likely apply my bumper to theirs. No Carl did not mean to Flip Brad, but he did mean to apply some revenge. Here is my point. In a sport where you are running at speeds in excess of 150 MPH on a regular basis, Any revenge is dangerous! But remember, these are Men, not machines out there racing, and sometimes your temper gets the best of you! So to those who now say they have lost respect for Carl for Sunday's incident, I say fine, but do not come running to me, when Brad Keselowski seriously injures someone on the track, with his over aggressive driving. I hope that Brad got a good scare Sunday, and I hope he calms down and learns what Give and take is! And knowing Carl. Having spent time with him in Victory Lane at Bristol, He will apologize, because that is NOT how Carl races! But again, He is merely a Mortal man, and prone to allow his temper to get the best of him, now and then. I still believe that a couple bills from the owners of the cars torn up on Sunday, sent to the drivers, might help drive the point home! And this is why I think NASCAR should put in a boxing ring. Sunday's incident could have been settled like gentlemen, in the ring,lol... But I think all of you need to make up your minds, Do you want racing Like My generation grew up with? Which is BALLS OUT racing, with nothing but respect on the part of the drivers? Or do you want NASCAR to go back to over policing the series, like NASCAR A.E. Where so many rules were put into play, we all lost track. Basically, Give NASCAR time to figure all this out. But first and foremost, we have to research how to keep these cars on the ground, And YES they did go airborne when they had the spoiler, just ask Ryan Newman!

Okay stepping back off my soapbox...

Pull those belts tight,
The greens gonna fly!
And this ain't no ordinary ride,
This is NASCAR!

Some sad new to report

After a private fight with Liver Cancer, Lee Roy Mercer has been called home! I found out a couple days ago and have personally been trying to deal with the fact, that my friend is gone. Lee Roy didn't tell any of us about his illness, but that was Lee Roy Mercer! No time for sympathies, and knowing Him, I know he gave it the fight of his life, until he could no longer fight! Warhead Records has suffered a huge loss with the passing of Lee Roy, both Professionally and personally. He was a great friend, a great comedian, and most of all, A great man! I will miss him dearly! We are talking about a possible benefit, to help raise money for his widow. Right now, portions of All sales at LeeRoyMercer.com will benefit the family left behind. RIP my friend,

Life and times of
Lee Roy Mercer

You were my friend,
Really one of a few.
Lee Roy Mercer,
I sure will miss you!
It was pure luck,
You came into my life,
Just to make me giggle,
And have my back in a fight!
Whoopin’ Ass, Pullin’ pranks,
Your specialty it seemed.
And I laugh at the victims,
Of your funny mean streak!
Like Poor Tony,
Steam came from those ears,
As our laughter then,
Now turns into tears.
For now I am sad,
For Heaven you see.
They know not,
To whom they’ve given the key!
Life and Times of a man,
We all knew.
Lee Roy Mercer,
We will surely miss you!

Dedicated to the Memory of my friend,
You taught me not to take things so seriously,
And to always remain true to myself.
I love you, and will miss you,
Until the day we are brought back together,
at the gates of heaven.
Rest in Peace Lee Roy Mercer!

Female NASCAR history

So this season, all we seem to be hearing about is Danica Patrick, Like she is the first ever female to ever enter a NASCAR event! Well I am here to set that record straight!

In 1948, Sara Christian drove her way into the New Sport that would soon be known as NASCAR, or National Association Of Stock Car Auto Racing. In 1949, Sara competed in six of the eight events of the Strictly Stock Series. Sara finished Sixth at Langhorne Speedway, Pennsylvania and Fifth at Heidelberg Speedway, Pennsylvania, Sara finished the season thirteenth in points.

In 1949, Louise Smith competed in several races including the Famous Daytona Beach event!

Ethel Flock Mobley, Sister to NASCAR champion Fonty Flock, competed in two events in 1949. Mrs. Mobley was married to Charlie Mobley, who fielded the cars for Tim Flock in the Modified series

Then in 1962, NASCAR would see it's first Female owner in the series, Mimi Reynolds, who was the daughter of a U.S. senator. At the age of only nineteen, Ms. Reynolds would become NASCAR's first female owner to win a race and the youngest owner to ever win! Her # 26 Ford was driven to that victory in Augusta, Georgia, on a half mile dirt track. Her driver was Fred Lorenzen!

Again in 1976, Women would again come to NASCAR to compete, for a short time. Janet Guthrie, a well known female racer, competed at Charlotte in the World 600. She qualified twenty-seventh, and finished the race in fifteenth place! Interesting, Her car was also owned by a Female owner, Thanks to Humpy Wheeler! Mr. Wheeler set the whole thing up, Lynda Ferreri was the listed owner and it only cost $21,000.00 to be a NASCAR owner in 1976!

1977 brought women to the Firecracker 400 at Daytona International Speedway, Janet Guthrie, Lelia Lombardi, and Christine Beckers all competed, but due to mechanical issues, none finished the event.

More recently, from 2001 to 2003, Shawna Robinson took on the NASCAR series as a driver and found limited success. But all over the United States, there are young female drivers like Rachel Zambawa, who are tearing up Local dirt tracks, hoping to someday make a NASCAR start. So anyone who thinks that Danica is paving the way for the next generation is completely WRONG! That road was dirt and then paved a long time ago, and by TRUE women, who proved they could compete with men, long before Anyone burned a Bra! Any questions? I hope this explains why I have been so pissed about Danica, Everyone is acting like she is so special, But to me, The women listed above, They are my heroes, they competed against men, in a time when Women has only joined the workforce due to WWII, when Morals and social responsibility told them they couldn't, It wasn't lady like. In my opinion, they deserve all the Media!

missed Martinsville

So I missed yesterday's race! A rarity for me! But when your morning starts with doing CPR to your neighbor, and his dying once at the hospital, makes a NASCAR race small for the day. Javier Chavez, My friend and neighbor died yesterday of a Heart attck, he was only 40. So please bear with me while my family mourns, and I get a handle on my depression, which is throwing fits at this moment. I know he is in a better place, But to watch my daughter and His son mourn, well it just tears my heart out! With his death, we agreed to take his German Shepard, Chyna. She is a sweet dog, and since I have been training her, his son wanted us to have her. For a 15 yr. old child, he now has to be a man. This weekend we will help him go through his Dad's things, and find homes for the animals he will be unable to take. Please keep us in your prayers this week, as we mourn his passin and try to move on.

Enough already

First off a Huge CONGRATULATIONS to Roush-Fenway, Jack Roush, Matt Kenseth and the whole 17 Dewalt Ford Fusion crew! Way to Go Matt! Didn't I forewarn ya'll about those Roush-Fenway boys this season?

Now, this is probably gonna make some people mad, but already after 1 race, I feel the need to stand up for my sport and it's competitors. Yesterday I had to leave the chat room, before my head exploded! The incident with BV and JR. was supposibly all Junior's fault, yet BV was the one who smacked into him and sent him under the double yellow. Now what happened next was partly Junior's fault, But it takes two to tango. And to compare the Cup incident to the Nationwide incident, when speaking of penalties, well I think the whole story should be told. Leffler's penalty on Saturday came after multiple incidents on the track, all with Leffler smacking into alot of cars! Sunday's incident, was Junior's First on the track incident. Now I am not saying Junior was innocent, what he did was bad, it tore up alot of stock cars. What I am saying is, until you have walked a mile in a CUP drivers shoes, we have no idea. I want to know why Junior's spotter didn't tell him he wasn't clear? Isn't that the spotter's job? So Both were guilty, BV and Junior! Both were being stupid, agressive and both caused alot of good cars to be wrecked! Why do we allow lap cars to start next to lead lap cars? And was I the only one who saw it coming, from the restart after the caution?

Now as in speaking of CUP drivers, If I hear one more person dogging Joey Lagano, I am gonna SCREAM! If you want to blame someone, Blame J.D. Gibbs, He was the one who added stupidity into the act. He is who thinks a 18 year old kid is ready for the pressures of driving a CUP car. Joey didn't get on his hands and knees and beg for Tony's old job, it was thrust upon him, So why blame Joey? I agree that Joey isn't ready for CUP and should have been made to spend a couple years in the lower levels of NASCAR. But everytime I suggest raising the age in Cup to 21, I get shot down! So until I get some support on raising the age, I am a lone soldier on that matter.

I feel really bad for the drivers who were taken out yesterday, what a way to start the season! And Kyle had a great car, but so did Matt,lol... So as we head off to California, I pray for no stupidity, but I also know this sport well enough, not to hold my breathe.

awwwww, sigh.. Welcome to another year of NASCAR, Maybe we will actually get some racing in,lol...

Returning home

So this Saturday the NASCAR season kicks off with the Budweiser Shootout! Now to some, it just means that Racing has returned to the U.S., but to me, it means it's time to go home. So looking around, home looks ,well like home... Ahhh Rowdy, a home where you can relax, talk trash, and know you are loved! So as we headed off into the perverberial sunset, I ask:
What do you want from the NASCAR season this year? Besides great excitement, Great Racing, and great American men doing what they love? Who do you think will take it all this year? What's your take? What's your opinion? The racing season is upon us, which can only mean 1 thing:

IT'S TIME TO GET ROWDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drinking and driving? Now I'm mad

The decision to drink and drive is one of the few things that will rile me up. It is the stupidest action you can make. When you make the decision to climb behind the wheel of a vehicle weighing, well lets just use NASCAR’s weight of 3400 pounds. You become a moving weapon of mass destruction. Look I could care less if you wanna go and party, But Do Not Drink and then drive, when you do, you are endangering me and anyone else innocently driving this holiday season. In Houston earlier last week, a 13 year old child was hit by a drunk driver, seconds after getting off the bus, she was killed. She was layed to rest this past Sunday. This morning I read this, hence today’s blog. Anna Smith, daughter of Bruton Smith, we all know who he is. On December 10, Ms. Smith was involved in a single vehicle accident, which threw her approximently 40 feet. She remains in Carolina Medical Center, and has been charged with DWI and driving with a Revoked License. So this holiday season I am asking:

Please drink responsibly Either appoint a designated driver or take a cab when you go out to play. We want you with us next season, at a track near you!

Happy Holidays to you all

Stay warm and safe,

A time of year of season's joy,
A time to show some cheer.

Giving Thanks

So it is Thanksgiving week, and chief187 asked about traditions, which I really have none. I cook, we pray, they eat til they are stuffed like the butterball was,lol.. Marty shared his story, and WOW, I had to thank him for what he and his wife do for our soldiers. Now that got me thinking about the thousands, no hundreds of thousands of Proud men and Women, who will stand on that wall on Thanksgiving, then will report to the mess tent and eat a military prepared thanksgiving dinner. Before beginning, they will pray! At home their families will also pray, for the safety of their loved one this Thanksgiving, as will my family. So when asked what I am most thankful for?

The United States Military, is always my answer. That my freedom rests in the hands of proud, brave men and women, makes me secure. So as you sit down to eat, remember those brave souls, and the sacrifice they are willing to make, to keep YOU and I free!

A friend, who has served this proud nation for 26 years forwarded to me the following phrase, The army is trying to find out, just who originally said it for me.

Veteran- A person who wrote a blank check, made payable to the United States of America, For an amount up to, and including their life. That is Honor.
