I see no changes in the current forecast that tomorrow night's race will be postponed. I have two reasons why I believe this should happen.
- NASCAR, local and state officials should not allow fans to be pouring into the area when they truly do not know what they will be facing tomorrow. While it is unlike the Richmond area will experience massive amounts of damage. They will still see a lot of flooding and it's just not a time you want 150,000 race fans on the streets for the weekend. I find it stupid that they want these fans pouring into the area knowing the conditions will suck.
- It may not be POURING Saturday night. But a few bands will be left behind. Most practice sessions from late tonight on should be rained out. And there is no way officials will be able to dry the track out under any circumstances in the time frame they'll have tomorrow night. So while the storm may arrive ahead of the race. I find it stupid that they'd even let fans arrive in the area.
I stand by my call... POSTPONE THE RACE and ALL RACE WEEKEND ACTIVITIES!
I do not have time to make a movie just yet. But I wanted to pass on that based on my current analysis of the conditions in and around Richmond this weekend. The Race WILL have to be postponed.
My Hanna Forecast: I believe Hanna will make landfall in the New Bern/Atlantic Beach area early on Saturday. It should be right around the strength of a minimal Hurricane/strong tropical storm. (Around 70 MPH winds or so) The storm's speed will really begin to accelerate after landfall. She will travel through Virginia as a Tropical Storm.
And will briefly re-emerge over the open waters of the atlantic. And pass along the Jersey Coast and might brush the tip of Long Island. Expect Some tropical storm force winds at times in those areas. But for the most part just heavy drenching rains will be falling.
Wind damage with this storm should be minimal. But wind conditions and such will not make for a nice day any stretch of the imagination. And with a storm of this nature any damage is always possible and a concern.
However I do believe that in Richmond VA on Saturday night. It will be too nasty to allow the roadways to be full of race fans in the afternoon. And Saturday night rain could still very likely be falling and gusty winds as the storm begins to depart. Plus the track will be soaking wet at this point.
So my call on the weekend, without a doubt... THE RACE WILL BE POSTPONED
Hi guys! I just wanted to check in with everyone and say hopefully for the chase I will be able to once again deliver weather forecasts. My mac now makes it so easy with the built in cam and software. So hopefully it works out.
I will be leaving for Boston and Emerson College on Sunday. So I'll be sure to check in! And as I said hopefully deliver the chase weather forecasts!
I just wanted to check in with everyone. And while I do not have enough time to comment all of my wonderful rowdy friends. I am thinking about you all! And miss you guys!
Hi Guys! I just wanted to check in with everyone and thank EVERYONE for their well wishes and comments on the prom pictures. I may not have gotten to reply to everyone, But I read everyone's comments and well wishes. And TRULY appreciate them all!
I just wanted to let everyone know I am doing very well. In the spring, I made my college decisions. After being afraid of the cost, I decided to attend my DREAM school.. Emerson College in Boston, MA as a Broadcast Journalism Major. Where I can join a school with a prestigious alumni like Jay Leno and Henry Winkler among others. So I am excited for that.
Prom went VERY well. And hopefully I can get more pictures up shortly. On Tuesday, I finished up my last final. Which was not a fun event in a school without AC and classrooms that hit 97* by noon!
And now tonight is my last night with classmates as we gather for "Senior Night". A yearbook signing, dinner, video yearbook and hypnotist show that I am excited for. And sad to see come.
Sunday night we all sleep at the school for an unofficial school sleepover on the football field. The school doesn't sponsor it. But we all show up anyway.. And Monday is the big day! I will be graduating at 5 PM.
I cannot believe it's really here. But I just wanted to let everyone know what was going on around here. And I will be a lot more active in the summer as my schedule opens up.
2:50 PM (EST): The last REAL batch of showers/downpours is moving through Fontana right now. Then behind it there are VERY scattered showers. But the real question is.. how wet is the track? Dennis pointed out already that the infield is drenched and the poor drainage at the racetrack. That is the real question. And it is not up for me to answer. Track officials are going to have a tough time answering that one. Just in case.. the forecast for tomorrow:
Some early Patchy fog. Then clearing. With High temperatures around 68*. It will be A MUCH Better day.
12:30 PM (EST): Things are improving in California. One more band of showers should move through the area in about an hour. Look for drying conditions afterwards. And a racing window could develop. The onshore flow continues to weaken. Meaning good news for anyone wanting to go racing today! We may just have a delay to dry the race at the start.
11:45 AM (EST): If you look at radar from the area they are experiencing decent rain (And will be for atleast the next 2 hours) around the speedway. However the onshore flow appears to be slowing down just a bit. (Meaning the moisture coming in off of the coast is slowing down a bit). The chances of rain will decrease as the day progresses but will it be enough? I'll keep watching the radar.
Here is the California Weather Forecast for this weekend.
Enjoy! Hopefully we stay drier
Temperatures in Daytona Beach, FL are a bit warmer than we thought before. NOT by a LOT.
But... We already hit 80*. In the next hour we should reach our high temperature of around 81*.
That means around the green flag, temperatures will be around 80* still instead of the forecasted 78*. At the airport SE Winds are at 12 MPH, gusting to 17 MPH at this hour, and look for those to be atleast a BIT on the increase as we forecasted. So the winds are right on track as we thought.
The BIG headline is brilliant sunshine to start. Clouds will be SLIGHTLY on the increase later. But things are looking okay still. Rain will stay away until early Monday. Everything is going VERY well!
Enjoy the Race!
Here is the FINAL Forecast for the 50th running of the Great American Race.. The Daytona 500! Everything is looking Great! Enjoy the racing
today!!
Look for the UP to the MINUTE Rowdy.com Weather Forecast to come out tonight around 11 PM. New weather information comes in around 10 PM so I will be sure to include that in my update.
