I just don't have the time to keep up with the online Rowdy nation anymore, but there is something that's been bugging me for several weeks now. I gotta' get it out of my system.
Jr's going to win the Daytona 500.
There, I feel better now.
Just wanted to to say a few words about Gigi's new career. I was in the Coast Guard for six years, and I worked at Air Station Corpus Christi for the last two. I was in charge of search-and-rescue planning and ran the operations on each SAR case. So, I was the one telling the helo (or jet) where to go, what to do, and when/if the swimmer should go in the water.
This is a tough, tough job. I've seen many people not make it through the first two weeks of training. It really is like SEAL's training minus learning how to kill and blow stuff up, It's all physical, all the time.
In the Coast Guard, it's the glamor job: posters, TV interviews, etc. Back at the air station however, they clean the heads, pack and mend parachutes, make coffee, answer phones...
Sending Gigi mail would be a Godsend. There is absolutely nothing better than getting mail when you're in bootcamp. Keep her updated on how Ragan is doing. Because I can guarantee that she's not in front of the TV with some popcorn on raceday!
P.S. I didn't die, just still chugging along in school, work, kids, etc. I'm here in spirit everyday, though.
On May 14th, I forecasted Jr. and Gordon would be teammates
Even though Cutler was right to describe it as science fiction, the headline speaks for itself
First off, congrats to JP He proved he had the stuff. Now, it's time for an oval win. I know he won't be satisfied until he has his first one of those under his belt.
Now, to the curse. I am a fan of Premiership football in England. Tottenham Hotspur is my team, and I have many different shirts and jersey's from the team. On game days that I wear one of those kits, they embarrass themselves. When I don't, they exhibit beauty and glory.
Right after Daytona, I picked up the cool JP/Texaco shirt (the one Buck is wearing on the homepage) and I wear it every week. One week, when I was out of town and did not wear it on race day, JP came in 5th. This week, I got behind on laundry and wore an old Bobby Allison shirt instead. JP gets his first win.
As much as I love the shirt, I may have to refrain from wearing it on racedays. It has a much nicer feel wearing it on a Monday after a win
Everyone seems to jump at rookie JP's mistakes at the drop of a hat. I guess he needs to just calm down and take notes from some former champs on how to drive.
If there's anything better than a Stewart wreck, it's a Stewart wreck involving a Bush brother.
On second thought, you might not want to pay any attention to the "Elder Statesmen", JP.
P.S. Godspeed Bill France Jr.
I'm a relatively new Nascar fan. I've been watching for several years, but those years are all post-Earnhart. So, obviously, I never saw him race except for old races ESPN Classic have replayed.
What I gather is that he really ticked a bunch of people off on and off the track. What I would like to know from the Rowdy Nation is if his off-track attitude was like what Montoya's is: arrogant, unapologetic, and unforgiving in competition?
All I know is Dale the Legend, and I've heard stories, and I saw him punt Terry Labonte at Bristol on the last lap for the win. I believe he was obviously more likable than JP in and out of the garage. Maybe this is the difference I sense. JP is anything but a good 'ol boy. This will drop JP's appeal down for the same behavior as Dale Sr.
I'm just looking for insight and wisdom from the Rowdy elders. I want to know how far I am treading on the dark side by being a Montoya fan. I can't wait for people to try and give paybacks Is this how being an old-school racing fan was?
Greg Biffle is going to trump Jr. for the last spot at Childress. Hendrick is full and standing by his drivers. Gibbs will not accept Bud as a sponsor. So, Jr. will end up at Robbie Gordon Motorsports as a second team. In two years, Robbie Gordon will make the Chase. He'll win it all in five years.
O.K., I'm sitting on my couch watching the race. They show and discuss a battle for position between Smoke and JP. Being a JP fan, I naturally perk up a bit (since they never seem to want to talk about Biffle much). I start saying derogatory things about the Smokin' one in my best Colombian accent (I've been to Colombia) out loud for the benefit and amusement of my wife sitting next to me, as she is not a big race fan. Low and behold, I see my prophesy come true. JP smoothly went up the track, gave Stewart two healthy little bumps, and Whamo Up in Smoke.
As I mentioned, my wife is not a big race fan. Her dad was a funny car racer, and she spent one too many weekends as a child in the blazing West Texas heat with the noise and the smell (lucky). She exclaimed, "He wrecked him ". I started laughing in disbelief. Yep, JP just spun out Smoke
DW then said Jp got loose and went up the track into Stewart. They showed a replay. I saw a smooth car, with no wobble, saying,"I'm tired of messing with you ". My wife agreed that JP's car looked smooth and deliberate. As we say here in Texas, "Eee Dawgie ".
The Fox team just dismissed this as a loose car smacking another car. It didn't seem interesting enough for them to even discuss, apart from the implications on the point standings. Am I delusional? Is my wife? I KNOW I saw JP intentionally wreck Stewart. It was too smooth and controlled to be accidental. Please Rowdy Nation, help me. Did you see what I saw? Let me know if I'm delusional
