Kansas Speedway Here I Come

Yeah, you read that right. In a couple days I'm on a plane to Kansas.

Why Kansas? Because it's Clint Bowyer's home track! Where else will I find such a large concentration of members of the fan club? Hmmmm?

Can't wait! Meeting up with a number of them... WOOOHOOO!!

Question is, will I get a Buck & Bass sighting, or what?

Thoughts on Kyle Busch

Ah, Kyle Busch. This year's driver everybody loves to hate. 6 wins this year, pretty much dominating wherever he goes. Driving the Jr. Nation crazy. Love him, hate him, he's probably the most talked about driver this year. Toyota must LOVE him with the success he is giving them in Cup.

Funny thing is, I remember saying something to my husband last year to the effect of... "You watch that Kyle Busch kid next year. Wherever he goes, he's going to start winning a lot of races and make Hendrick regret getting rid of him". I don't know about Hendrick regretting it, but I was right on the first part. Kid has something to prove, and its adding fuel to the fire.

I still think he's an arrogant, immature little punk. And a brat. But I saw something in a GoMotorBids catalog this morning that made me think of another driver's "arrogance". A picture taken in 1979 or 1980 of Dale Earnhardt Sr. opening up his firesuit to reveal a t-shirt that says "Damn I'm Good". Sr. wasn't much older than KB when this pic was taken... maybe 5 years older. And they didn't call that guy The Intimidator for nothing. A lot of people hated him when he was alive, now the man is damn near deified.

No, I'm not jumping on the Kyle Busch Bandwagon. But I'm not going to hate on him either. I'll probably still get upset when he wins over the guys I cheer for, and I'll still get pissed at him when he does stupid stuff on the track, or exhibits bratty behavior. But I'm not going to hate him. Hell, he may even win me over eventually. It will take a while, but it could happen. Will he ever take the #1 spot in my fandom? No. But he could (eventually) make it in to the top 10. Maybe. He'll have to mature a little first.

What is with Jimmie Johnson?

And what is up with Jimmie Johnson? I swear the man was exposed to a highly contagious case of The Ass. Last weekend he was whining that Jeff Gordon was racing him 'too harrrrrd'. Uh, hello? They raced each other even harder last year and it didn't seem to affect their friendship. This week it seemed he had it in for Jeff Gordon. Practically slamming into him on pit road on numerous occasions, repeatedly hanging him out to dry when they should have been hooking up for the draft. Jimmie, dude, that's your boss.

Sing it with me now...

Here he comes
Here comes Speed Racer
He's a demon on wheels
He's a demon and he's gonna be chasin' after someone.

He's gainin' on you so you better look alive.
He's busy revvin' up a powerful Mach 5.

And when the odds are against him
And there's dangerous work to do
You bet your life Speed Racer
Will see it through.

Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer, Go!

He's off and flyin' as he guns the car around the track
He's jammin' down the pedal like he's never comin' back
Adventure's waitin' just ahead.

Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer, Go!

"Speed Racer" the movie comes out this Friday. I am totally stoked about this one! Iron Man last weekend, Prince Caspian next weekend... geez, the 3 movies I'm excited about all at once.

I grew up watching 'Speed Racer' cartoons. That and 'Kimba the White Lion' were my first exposure to anime (VERY early anime) and I still enjoy watching it. Speed was my first crush. Yes, my first crush was a cartoon character. Hey, I was 5!! Not surprising... my first crush a car guy. Explains my fascination with fast cars too.

Its going to be campy, cheezy, and the special effects are going to be totally and completely OVER THE TOP! I can't wait!!!

How About That Clint Bowyer?

GO CLINT!!

Seriously! How about the kid from Kansas that kept it clean, didn't use up his car, and WON the race on Saturday?

GO CLINT!!

Now THAT'S something worth celebrating!

GO CLINT!!

How about that... the Jack Daniel's driver won the Crown Royal 400? Hey, Jack is a winner over Crown with me every time anyway.

GO CLINT!!

Brought to the point of tears... TWICE in one race

First time: when Matt Kenseth got involved in that wreck. He was just starting to make his way forward and I was hoping his luck would be changing. Then BAM!!! Nowhere he could go. 63 laps down. I almost started bawling. Sad Tears

Second time: When Clint Bowyer went around the Busch/Jr. wreck and took the lead. I just KNEW he had the win. Elated Tears

Am I too emotionally involved with these racing events? Maybe. But I wouldn't change it.

Q: What do Clint Bowyer and RUSH have in common?

A: They both ROCKED my weekend!!!

I had to record the race because I was at my brother in-law's last night to celebrate his and his wife's anniversary. Had to maintain 'computer silence' until I could watch the race today and not have the ending spoiled.

Got a text from Shavelle Saturday night that simply said 'WOOOHOOO' and I suspected something great happened.

This morning, watching the race unfold, watching Bowyer work his way through the field from 30th to be in the position to take advantage of Kyle Bush's punting of Junior (Yeah, full on case of The Ass for Kyle there, lost some respect points from me), take the lead, and win the race... oh man... I was ecstatic!!

Tonight I went to see the band Rush in concert. Managed to land some box seats through work. I've always liked Rush, but never saw them live before. They were AWESOME!!! I was still amped up from the win, so I channeled that into jumping around and screaming my fool head off. A lot.

I'm gonna hurt in the morning, I can tell. It was soooo worth it!

Oh yeah, they both have Jack Daniel's in common, because I had to enjoy some Gentleman Jack to toast Clint's win while I was at the show.

Less Than Thrilled With Fox

Besides the obvious reasons of cutting away from the pre-race coverage and MISSING THE GREEN FLAG because of freaking baseball (have I mentioned how much I hate baseball?), I am more than a bit irate with Fox for their post race coverage?

Why?

1. Because after Jimmie Johnson crossed the finish line, did they bother to show the rest of the drivers finishing the race? No. We were 'treated' to a view of the crew chief and crew celebrating. Ok, good for JJ and his crew, but seriously, there are 42 (ok, a few less) other cars out there. What about the battle for 2nd between Clint Bowyer and Denny Hamlin? Was it even a battle? Or was there a significant amount of time between the two of them? Gee, guess I'll never know, because the idiots at Fox couldn't be bothered to show the rest of the freaking race!

2. Because they failed to show the post race interviews of the 2nd and 3rd place finishers, even though they had PLENTY of time to do so. So I did not get to see Clint get interviewed about his 2nd place finish, or even asking Denny Hamlin about their last pit stop. You know, if Jimmie's gamble hadn't paid off, it would be Clint celebrating tonight. Yet they managed to interview Dale Jr. (no big surprise there) who finished 7th. I swear the guy could finish dead last and they'd still interview him over drivers that finished better than he did.

Don't get me wrong, I like Dale Jr., I would have even liked to see him win tonight (I'd say he's long overdue), but I'm kinda tired of seeing him interviewed every time I flip on a NASCAR related show. It borders on the ludicrous.

Ouch!

Two things I find painful right now.

1. Johnny "He's a Weapon Out There" Sauter edged out Kyle Petty in qualifying by 1/10th of a second.

2. I had a root canal today.

OUCH!!!

Color Scheme Confusion Abounds This Saturday

Seems that the Phoenix race is going to have an overabundance of alternate paint schemes on the track this Saturday night.

MATT KENSETH will be in the BLACK DeWalt Nano car. Awesome scheme if its the same as last year.

CLINT BOWYER will be in the BLUE DirecTV car. Last time he ran it he DID get a top 10, so there's hope. heh. I just say to myself that underneath the blue it is still the Jet Black Jack Attack...

TONY STEWART will be in a YELLOW Subway car.

KEVIN HARVICK will be in an ORANGE Reese's car.

DENNY HAMLIN will be in a WHITE & PURPLE special FedEx, Kinko's and March of Dimes scheme.

I need to get this fixed into my head NOW because I know come Saturday evening I will start imbibing in my favorite driver's primary sponsor and get VERY confused.
