A Nascar Bowling League?

The bowling alley my mom works at is working on starting up a Nascar bowling league. At the end of the league, everyone gets their choice of one of those super cool Nascar jackets.

Living Red in a Blue State

PREFACE: I felt inspired to write this afternoon. It's what I like to do when I get frustrated with something. I deleted my MySpace a while back and I don't really have a general blog anymore. This doesn't have anything to do with NASCAR, and for that I apologize. I do think it would be interesting to hear what the Rowdy nation thinks - a little more adult community then MySpace.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I used to like Margaret Cho, a Korean stand-up comedian. I had watched her video, “I am the One That I Want last year and I really enjoyed it. It was a regular stand-up routine, but the material was organized in such a way to tell her life story and how she got to where she is now. It was hilarious, and even a little inspirational. So last night, I thought I would watch another one of her videos, “Assassin.

I was completely disgusted. She did such a tremendous job of generalizing all conservatives and made such a strong point that conservative people are evil, wicked, woman-hating, homophobic, dumbasses. I kept waiting for her to finish up, I figured she would move on to other things… and she would move on to other topics, but keep bringing it back to politics and those conservative bastards.

Sometimes our nation can be so polarized, it makes me sick. Conservatives and liberals are all full of shit. There is some shit that I am conservative about, and some shit I am liberal about. And I, along with everyone else, don’t deserve to be judged for my opinions. I do consider myself more conservative then not, and living in the Bay Area of California, life isn’t any fun when you’re labeled a conservative.

Especially in college. I have walked out of several classes because the instructor felt it was appropriate to voice their opinions about our governing body with the assumption that every single person in the room shared their opinions. I was studying the rules of logic and some idiot thought he would be a smartass and provide the class with a political implication: “If Bush is elected president, then our country will be a disaster. I even walked out of a Santana concert because Carlos felt it was appropriate to relate George Bush to the devil. Despite the fact that how I choose to cast my vote for presidency is nobody else’s business, certain people would persist to pry it out of me, and then proceed to criticize me for my decision. Those people have some nerve… it’s a bit silly that members of the Democratic party are such advocates for free speech, but only if your free speech is in accord with their free speech.

Some of the same people who claim Bush is an idiot, are the same people who think Bush orchestrated the terrorist attacks in 9/11. I would think you would have to be pretty smart to orchestrate a terrorist attack on your own country.

Women may not be very well respected in this country, but one thing is for sure: Women are respected a hell of a lot more in this country then they are in South America or the Middle East.

I won’t claim to be a political expert, I am so sick of politics that I don’t think it is worth my time. I avoid political conflicts as much as possible because I don’t have enough concrete evidence to back my opinions and I know that most people here won’t listen and respect me for my opinions anyway.

What it boils down to is this: I am just a college kid, flat broke and trying to find his place in this huge world. I love power cords and double kick pedals, I love macaroni and cheese and video games. I was that kid that everyone made fuun of in middle school and my self esteem shows it. I respect women for who they are, even though my penis likes to think for itself sometimes. I think we should be in Iraq taking the fight to the terrorists and I am glad I have a C-student president with enough balls to do something about it. I don’t believe we have the right or authority to be installing any new governments in the Middle East. I believe women should be allowed to choose whether or not to have their baby. I don’t really have a strong opinion on the death penalty, but maybe those murdering mother fuckers should die. I believe tightening up the gun controllaws are a waste of time and money. I believe gay people should be allowed to marry. I will admit that I am not at all comfortable around the gay culture… but gays are no less of a human being then straight people are. I believe global warming is a bunch of shit, but relying on foreign oil is a terrible mistake as we make our way into the future.

I am sick of hearing people bitch and moan about how Bush is our most embarrassing president. Maybe he is, and I am willing to accept that, but clearly, he has done more then you have, after all, he did get elected President. I don’t think anyone has a right to talk and preaching about it is a waste of time.

So this is who I am. Take it or leave it. Respect me for who I am as a person, respect me for my opinions and I will do the same for you. Is this too much to ask for? Am I just being too sensitive? I get along with people from different viewpoints then myself just fine, heck, (Heck is a Nor Cal thing…) more then half of my friends are more liberal then conservative. The difference is we respect each other for our differences. Please, discuss these things with me in a mature and respectful fashion, but don’t tell me I am wrong and look down at me through your nose. I am not at all obligated to listen to you either.

My take on Carl's penalty

I am in no way shape or form claiming to be a big expert on car setups, but I find myself feeling that Carl's penalty is fair enough. I think he should consider himself lucky he wasn't docked 100 points like everyone else.

Everyone seems to be screaming that Carls' car being too low will hurt the performance more then help it, but why then did he win the race?

I understand that there is less downforce on his car, but how much of Dover a downforce track? When I think of a downforce track, I think of Michigan, but Dover? The high banked turns and the sticky racing surface, do you really need downforce as much as you do at Michigan?

A lowered car may also provide advantages that I haven't heard anybody refer to on Rowdy yet... like a lowered center of gravity provides more stability. Less downforce also provides less wind resistance, and less of a draft behind his car.

Am I out of line in saying that maybe there is some kind of unseen advantage in Carl's car?

Nurburgring Challenge

So I was watching my favorite TV show, and this particular episode made me think of all the F1 fans at Rowdy. It's a follow up episode from last year, in which the host of the show was challenged to run around the Nurburgring in a diesel Jaguar in under ten minutes. His instructor, Sabine Schmitz, threw down another challenge, mocking him in such a way, that she could do that lap time in a van. I got such a kick out of this and I wanted to share it with the Rowdy nation. I think I love this woman! hahaha!

A Broken Point System?

Curse the FOX Network for no longer covering the races I haven't watched a race at home in... I don't even remember how long. Why did they stop? Will they continue coverage next year? You guys are complaining about TNT's supposedly less then adequate coverage, when us low-life's who opted not to buy cable can't even watch the race at all.

So here we have Buck, Bass, and Cutler exclaiming over the most exciting finish at the Pepsu 400, and then my heart just broke in half. FOX, you're a bunch of lazy bums Is it weird that my family doesn't have cable, yet we have a widescreen Hi Def TV with 5.1 surround? Oh well.

Tony Stewart is a self-absorbed asshole. Clearly, he thinks he can do whatever he wants because he is such an accomplished driver. Because of this, he also thinks that he is always right and anybody less accomplished then himself is below him. He had no right to burn Green eggs and Ham(lin) like that. Tony screwed up. He built up a great run and I'm sure he didn't want to lose it, and therefore, it was Hamlin's fault because he was in the way. Oh and Everybody is doing it these days... purposely wrecking their teammates? Give me a damn break Tony, yes, Your own teammate clearly was out to get you. Let's try finishing a race without crashing out?

Without people like Tony, NASCAR would be boring.

I think Kyle needs to grow up a little bit. I am not sure he is at the maturity level to race at the Cup level. I can understand that it has to feel pretty sucky to get replaced by the big Dale Jr, so maybe I should cut him some slack. Are there any requirements to racing at the cup level? (The size of your wallet ) But seriously, should there be some kind of age limit? Are maybe drivers should win X amount of Busch series races? Or perhaps have won a Busch Series Championship?

The last thing I would like to comment on is the point system. Doesn't it seem a little strange that the points are so spread out? Did anyone notice that the penalty against Jeff Gordon was practically negated now that Tony took out Denny this weekend? Yet Denny still remains in the second slot with a comfortable cushion between himself and Jimmie. As the weeks go by, I don't have to worry about my driver falling down one spot in the standings. There hasn't really been any movement with the other drivers either. Did NASCAR break the point system? Maybe that's just the way it panned out this year.

Racism and Racing

I would like to apologize that I have been so quiet on Rowdy for the past month or two, but I won't sit here and make excuses.

I will make it clear that I have been faithfully listening to the show everyday. In fact, The week I was in Santa Barbara with my friends, in which I was not able to listen to the show, I spent maybe two hours a day catching up when I returned home.

Regarding Racism and Racing that has been discussed the past couple of days or so, I would just like to share something my dad said to me a long time ago:

"Why do you think there are no black people driving the race cars in NASCAR? Because black people are not stupid enough to drive around in circles at 200 mph in a tin can "

I thought that was pretty damn funny. Hahaha How is that reverse racism for ya?

One Quick Question

So there has been some rumors of Mark Martin as the back-up driver for Jeff Gordon when Jeff's baby arrives. I understand that Jeff will be missing the race and thus, not get any points. Will any points earned by Mark go towards Mark himself? What then is the point of the 24 team running? Owner points perhaps? Sponsorship money?

Thanks everyone
Billy

Rain-Outs Suck

I was extremely dissappointed by the rain-out at Dover today. What is it, the thrid rain out this year? I'm tired of them

I thought to myself: I wonder what would happen if they would just slap on some rain tires and race rain or shine? It would unmistakably be like a rainy football game: Very messy

Now don't get me wrong, I am not one of those NASCAR fans who just wants to see the Big One, most certainly not. If I were, I would watch the demolishion derbies or something.

I thought I heard someone bringing up the idea, whether it was the guys on FOX or Buck and Bass on the podcast, they mentioned the cars just don't turn on rain tires. Which means... they just have to go slower right? They WILL turn at some point right? It might be a really boring race to watch, but this sport isn't about entertainment value is it?

I would certainly seperate the good drivers from the truly gifted drivers. It would show which teams can not only adapt to different temperature changes, but also weather changes. I think the guys who can race o on dirt would have a definate advantage.

I don't know, it is a thought I had, what are some of your opinions?
