Does anyone else see the similarity? Last year New England rewrote the NFL's regular season record books and was one drive away from 19-0. Fast foward to today....... Picture Kyle Busch poised to smash the record books with the most dominant modern day Cup season to date, only to lose the championship in the Chase. Is Cousin Carl Nascar's version of the NY Giants? The scenario of Busch losing it at Homestead is not that far fetched.....
OK, after reviewing all of the major, online media sources that cover Nascar (cbs, cnnsi. & ROWDY), the current point being made by many of those that cover this sport is that road racing doesn't belong in Nascar. Lars Anderson of SI, specifically, states the previous point and Bass has made his feelings clear. My problem w/ those who object to Watkins Glen and Sonoma is that the schedule is already too fat with boring, repetitive racing. Let's face it 2 races at Pocono, California, New Hampshire, & the numerous other cookie cutter, mile and half tracks often leave the fans a little to desire. So what if the COT is too bulky and not as graceful as open wheel cars on the road courses. Isn't this brief reprieve from oval racing a breath of fresh air? Maybe I'm biased. Having pulled for Tony Stewart all of these years, I've grown to enjoy watching races like those at Watkins Glen. Do I really care if Dale Jr. or Matt Kensenth don't enjoy this type of racing????No. These guys are some of the best paid in the business and are constantly referred to as the most talented in the world......so why not struggle a little and try and conquer the complicated and difficult task of maneuvering a heavy, cumbersome vehicle left and right............and yes this weekend's race should be in the Chase.....
We've all seen the crazy bad luck that has struck the Home Depot team this year. Tony Stewart has had to swallow some big disappointments, but how long can it go on? With all of the big announcements planned this weekend for Stewart-Haas Racing, a win would definitely ignite Smoke. Winning consecutive Brickyard 400's could make this a special weekend and possibly spark a serious run at a championship. I see some pretty favorable tracks in the near future for the 20 team.

You've got to appreciate JP Montoya's response to shrub on Sunday. Kyle Busch's ego has grown w/ each victory this season, so it was nice to see a driver smack him back when he got out of line. Busch acted so innocent, but didn't everyone see him run up on the 42?
The fact that Terry Labonte decided to get off the couch this weekend and thus guaranteed the Pettys a starting spot is a joke. It's a tough pill to swallow for JJ and Hall Of Fame Racing. As an objective fan I hate to see a guy like JJ pack up for the weekend only because some has been is hired to lock in a spot. Terry Labonte couldn't compete 5 years ago in Hendrick equipment and shouldn't be racing unless he can lay down a fast lap. I could understand a "current" champions provisional, but one that locks in a guy who won his last championship 12 years ago? What a joke.
Just when I thought he couldn't do anything more to irritate me, Denny Hamlin has done it again. Satuday night's dust up w/ Brad Keselowski had me screaming at the tv. "To think that a young Nationwide driver would even challenge such a superior competitor as Mr. Hamlin...what nerve" I love that fact that the youngster wasn't afraid to mix it up w/ a Buschwacker, but felt Hamlin took it too far when he ruined the front quarter panel of the Navy car. It was pretty neat to see Jr. jump out of line at let Hamlin know the level of his displeasure. Had that caution not come out, I really think Brad K . would have won the race. Can anyone blame the kid for laying it out on the line? Jr. has shown he can be impatient w/ his drivers, so the kid knows he can't let opportunities go on by when they present themselves. As for Hamlin...I've got more respect for the Busch bros. than I do for that brat.
As much as it pains me to say, I loved Shrub's introduction. He and the team taking a bow before the race had me laughing out loud. If he's going to annoy the fanbase, he might as well embrace the role.
Dale Jarrett(sp.?) finally made his last start in Cup......for now. It was pretty cool seeing him fire up the UPS truck, but he finished right where he's been for the last 3 years......an also ran. One good thing about the youth invasion is that its pushing older and less competitive veterans out. I mean should Kenny Schrader, Kyle Petty, etc. really be competing at the highest level? Don't get me wrong, I respect the older guys, but Nascar has a way of employing good guys who have been around the garage that don't perform.
With all the talk of Smoke moving on to a new endeavor, it really has me thinking. Is Tony making a huge mistake? The thought of Tony moving into the ranks of owner/driver really has me worried. You know the story of the talented driver who thinks he can pull it off....only to give up a few years later and wonder how many more races he could have won. Let's face it. Joe Gibbs Racing is performing better than it has ever done in the past. They're dominating the Nationwide series and can win with any car every weekend in Cup. In my opinion this is just the beginning. I think Toyota will eventually put Gibbs into the league of a Rick Hendrick. Is now the time to move on? I understand Tony's business aspirations, but I think he'll still have ownership opportunities in the future. For now championships should be his only thought, and in my mind JGR is where he has a shot to win one or two more.
Is it just me, or is everyone disappointed by Mark Garrow leaving Rowdy's daily reports? This guy is top notch when it comes to reporting from the garage. Buck and Bass, you guys owe a lot of your sucess to Garrow's input. We'll see how Steve fills in.......As for testing....I know it's extremely expensive for a track to host a test session, so who foots the bill for these weekends, Nascar or do the teams pay a fee?
