Hail Rowdy Land...I salute you
Daytona in July...and the wrecks mount and take their toll. This is not news, its fact only compounded by the packs that we see run every year at plate tracks. The so-called "big ones" that make favorites into fodder.
But, even though EVERYONE knows that it happens, that being dumb as well as sheer dumb luck plays into it...leave it to Smoke to put everything into perspective in HIS world.
Denny Hamlin had the misfortune of being in FRONT of Smoke, who wants his first win of this year, and of pulling a Silver Fox three-peat. So, Tony taps Denny out of the way..or gets loose...or whatever in the EARLY stages of the race...but instead of falling down the track, the 11 car goes up..right back into Tony. So far, normal Daytona.
But how, in the name of God, does it make Denny a bad team mate, ("I don't know if he knows what being a team mate is..." (thank you Smoke)), when your own team mate tries to push you out of the way?
Pot...meet kettle...and I think it's boiling over.
Not having watched all of the races this year, I have little place to say this, but Ive seen a camera shot of several pieces of debris when they have called cautions. So I have to give Nascar credit for some legitimate concerns.
But, as David Poole mentions in his Blog about credibility, I have concur that Nascar has a cloud over them that makes you believe that they are 'out to get someone' who disagrees with their policy, or might bring up a subject that they don't want to discuss. Debris cautions are but one item, tracks are another item. They will try and push into NEW and EXCITING markets where they may not be wanted, but the areas that are starved for racing (Kentucky, Rockingham, etc) are just pushed aside as not desirable (?) or not the money that they want.
And Mr France always goes where the money is....I just cant fault Smoke or Poole for bringing more light to this dark pit of despair. Tony could use more tact, but I'd love to send him a bigger flashlight
So in watching the Mexico race, Ive seen them cut to JP a couple of times, and it makes me worry. JP is a great driver, but he's still wet when it comes to stock cars, and to have people talking to him with 18 laps to go MUST be distracting. If something bad were to happen, could you blame the broadcast team, or NASCAR and their desire for self promotion?
Needed, new favorite driver
Ok...so I have a favorite in Boris Said, but since he's not running a full schedule, not even a "partial" like Mark Martin, (yah right he's going to sit out Bristol) I need someone to root for.
Historically, I was a Rusty Wallace fan...all hail the MGD black cars The best parts I got to watch were the #2 vs #3, and they both took and gave their all. But, Rusty has sailed into the broadcast booth....
So far, Ive been told that young Denny Hamlin is the up and coming driver, and he's the next breakout without having a (mental) breakdown. The positive is that he seems a good fellow, and has a thing for racing sims
Another option is to stick with the #2, which I started to do reflexively......Kurt Busch?
So I'd like some more input from the fans that I trust here at the Rowdy Nation Your help is not just appreciated, but desired AND IM BEGGING
Since I just finished listening to the Weekend edition of Rowdy, I am surprised that you guys forgot about the only winning monkey in Nascar...Jocko Flocko As the co-pilot of Tim Flock's ride, he has to be the official monkey trouble of Nascar.
And what is with the 'sunglasses' bit? It has been raining most of the last couple of days in Northern California, and it looks like carry over clouds down in SoCal. Don't come to presume, or else you'll be getting some BAD Napa Wine in your Easter Basket
I wonder how society will survive this?
The other day while I was on lunch, I decided to go to the store and pick up the 2007 Nascar Press guide. While looking through the magazines, I happened to look next to them and see the novels that were for sale. Once in a while, something will catch my eye and make me look at the back. But lo, to my horror, I saw the harbinger of doom
NASCAR novels. Not just any type of novels....NOOOOO NASCAR novels by Harlequin ?
I shudder to think where we go from here.
