Since Robby Gordon doesn't matter, I have changed my non-Christmas-card-getting driver to Kyle.
Shame, too. I used to like him.
I love night races! Nothing more fun than watching the race at the NASCAR Cafe and then going out on a Saturday night! Woohoo!
Also, it's nice not to have to go back to work the next day after pounding Miller Lites while I watch the race.
This was in local news today. I didn't know about this, but I've only lived here for a couple of years and I've only been into NASCAR for maybe six.
He was one of NASCAR's rising stars. Ten years ago Tuesday, Chris Trickle passed away from injuries he suffered in a car-to-car shooting here in Las Vegas. It was a tragic case of road rage that hasn't been solved.
His parents still live in Las Vegas and though a lot of time has passed, they still struggle for closure. While they would like to see their son's killer caught, they say these days they just try to concentrate on the good memories.
"And I've got his name down here, 'co-pilot,'" Chris Trickle's father, Chuck Trickle, points out. It's Chuck's prize possession, the car his son used to race.
And though 10 years have passed, the pain of his son's death is still fresh on his mind. "... and all I think about (is) the pain that he was going through," Chuck Trickle explains.
Chris was just 24-years-old when someone in a passing car opened fire. Chris was shot in the head and remained in a coma-like state for more than 400 days until finally he passed. "It's just like it was yesterday," Chuck said. "Couldn't possibly be 10 years."
Chris's murder was featured on America's Most Wanted three times. Police followed leads and exhausted resources for years, but ultimately turned up nothing.
The Trickles say their life hasn't been the same without their son who was destined to become the best in a long line of racers. He chose a dangerous career, but in the end they say he was killed by something senseless and unrelated.
Even if Chris' killer was found today, he could not be tried for murder because of a Nevada statute law which limited murder prosecution to one year and one day. After their son died the Trickles lobbied to change that law. It was called the Chris Trickle Bill and it did change in 1999.
Chris's father also drove race cars as did his uncle, Dick Trickle, who was well known on the NASCAR circuit.
It is SO FUN to watch the race with a bunch of other screaming NASCAR fans!
NASCAR, I missed you. What a great race. Sucks to be Jeff Gordon... feel bad for him.
Dale Jr. 9th... I'll take it. I wanted the win though.
Why was I the only one still sporting my #8 Bud jacket? I dunno, I don't want anything that says Amp. Maybe National Guard, maybe.
Rambling. I'll stop ;)
Rad... heard you on the radio this morning dude. Sweet.
I just said rad, dude, and sweet all in one blog.
I'm so BLAH on the weekends with no racing. Maybe I'll try to start liking football. Go 49ers.... *SIGH* they were good when I was a little girl at least.
Can we make that the official term for winning three races in a row? Or is it already?
first of all, I don't like the name. LAME.
Secondly, should I work the Rockabilly Rod Reunion this weekend at LVMS? I love the cars, and the guys, but I'd have to be there at 5:30 am to check them in!
And should I work NHRA the 27th and 28th, knowing that if I do that, I'll have absolutely NO weekend and I already work Monday thru Friday?
I really can't decide.
Oh, and I got tickets to the spice girls. Floor seats. Don't be jealous.
So I worked the Craftsman Truck Series race on Saturday... got there around 10 AM (no, i have no clue why anyone would show up 8 hours before the race starts, but whatever).
Left there at 10:30 PM.
What I do... I supervise the ushers, who are high school volunteers. Last year, I got a group of cheerleaders who were the laziest things... this year I got some good kids, so it wasn't too hard and I didn't have to be a hard-ass with them.
If anyone gets a chance to go to the cup race in March- you HAVE to get Neon Garage passes. It's so awesome. It's in the infield, they have wayyy better food than the rest of the track, there's a stage in the middle with bands playing (we saw Cowboy Crush, who actually really suck), and you can walk right up to a window and watch the teams work on the cars. Of course my girlfriend and I were in LVMS shirts and had headsets and all that, so we could go wherever we wanted- you KNOW we were in the pits talking to the crews!
After we get rid of the kids (around 8 PM), we always go up into the offices and eat the food left over from the suites and drink the confiscated beers (trust me, there's TONS of it- you can't bring beer into the track). It was super fun- afterwards, my boyfriend and I decided to go out drinking until 6:30 in the morning... aaaagh! But that's us, we're crazy.
"Unfortunately, they can't keep idiots like Robby Gordon from driving racecars," Raines said.
