I cannot make up my mind about Joey Logano. Now that the big news is in with Logano in the 20 next year, I’m wondering whether I’ll be cheering for him or not.
I keep changing my mind in Nationwide races this year. On one hand, he seems like a good kid with Mark Martin’s seal of approval. On the other, he really should have to pay his dues instead of getting top equipment in Nationwide and now Cup before he turns 19. Should I be excited that I’m seeing a phenom from the start, or is he just making me feel old? (I used to feel so much younger when the UPS car drove by)
Overall, I’m impressed with his maturity and attitude so I suspect that I’ll watch him with respect like I do with drivers like Matt Kenseth while cheering wildly for Jimmie, but should Joey beat Jimmie…
It would be a much easier decision if he came with a Nation of fans that annoy me.
What are you feeling towards the new #20?
I tuned in to the truck race tonight for two main reasons. First, it was in Bristol and I'd set my Tivo to watch Wal-Mart shoppers race Rascal scooters if it was in Thunder Valley. Second, I'm a huge Jimmie Johnson fan. Now, I'm thinking I'm an even bigger "Jim" Johnson fan. I liked seeing his name listed as "Jim" on the truck (before he destroyed it) and how can you not like seeing a hit list in the truck? (Yes, I'm also a Kyle fan) Even Jim's crash was entertaining and he showed a great sense of humor with the interview. I'll keep cheering "Jimmie" to a third title, but I'd like to have a few beers with "Jim" and hope to see him drive trucks more often.
I suggest that the leader in points after 26 races gets at least an additional 10 points for winning the regular season. I love the Chase and the scoring system with drivers starting with 10 points for every win. I like the emphasis on wins and it will be fun to watch the "locked in" drivers go for wins over the next five races. However, I think the points leader should get an extra boost for a great year. Rewarding the leader would also close the gap a bit to the years before the Chase so we can better compare drivers from different eras (e.g. Johnson '06-'08 vs. Yarborough '76-'78). What do you think?
