Meanwhile: UPS

Okay so get ready for me to contradict myself. Actually Bass made a good point that I figured I'd turn into a blog. It seems logical it's just not the intel we are hearing.

A. The collective wisdom is that UPS is headed to RCR. This rumor has not been shot down and we know that in NASCAR when a rumor is left to float it just might be true. I have been told repeatedly that UPS is going to RCR. But to whom? All four cars have a primary sponsor. I don't see them wanting to share the spotlight. Moreover, I don't see UPS wanting to share the spotlight.

Okay so you say fifth RCR car? I mean ... possibly but isn't there a four car rule coming down for 2010? Would Richard thumb his nose at Helton the way Jack Roush has? Maybe....

B. Answer ... UPS goes to a fourth car at Gibbs. Truex? Mears?

Let's be clear. We have not heard this so this from any source. So this is not news. I think we are the first to bring it up. But, doesn't it make sense? Didn't Chevy buy-out Smoke's contract. Are not Joe and JD flush with cash?

If Truex could get in a Gibbs car that'd be like winning the lottery.

I don't see RCR jumping from 3 to 5.

As Steve Richards pointed out, there's one rather large fly in the ointment: JGR has FedEx--so there's no way UPS can go there. Although it's true that Gibbs is the one top-tier team that can take on a 4th car right now . . . I guess, maybe there's some room at Roush.

I thought Jack Daniels was going to Stewart Haas as the next sponsor for the Newman car. That would leave Bowyer open, unless there is something I missed.

Profile

According to Jayski, Jack Daniels is staying with RCR. It's kind of funny that everybody was worried about Sponsors and not enough of them. It looks like a couple of teams actually have more sponsors than drivers. I just don't think that UPS will wind up at RCR. But you never know.

thanks, I guess what I heard was just a rumor but it sounds like RCR and Jack Daniels have confirmed their 2009 contract.

...oh, there are sponsors, sure... IF youare a top team. UPS, CAT, General Mills - look from whence they came. The sponsorship problems won't be for the Roushes and Hendricks of the world.

If JD stays at the #07/Bowyer team and UPS is looking for other options, I would think going with Newman at Stewart's team would be a good fit. OR A BETTER IDEA: maybe Penske #12 in place of the recently bought Alltel. Put Truex in that car and you have a winner...

(Sad part is that no one is even considering DEI as an option for UPS... sigh)....

X:)

Isn't AAA bailing on Ragan after this year?

When the music stops everybody take a seat !

Is there some sort of penalty in place if Roush (or if Childress does the same) doesn't condense down to four teams?

I don't see why UPS would go to Gibbs. Rival companies working for the same team. I just don't see it happening.

This sponsorship thing is making the gap between big team and small team way too big for my liking.
