A couple of changes in the sport announced Wednesday include a new sponsor deal and a retiring track promoter.
# Aflac announced it has signed a multi-year deal with Roush Fenway Racing to be the primary sponsor of Carl Edwards' car beginning next season. Aflac entered the sport last year, serving as a sponsor in select races and upped its involvement this season to being the primary sponsor in eight races and associate in the remaining 28 races.
# Lowe's Motor Speedway announced that track president Humpy Wheeler will retire after this weekend's Coca-Cola 600. While not all fans will know him -- although they've probably heard of him -- he's worked at the speedway since 1975 and no doubt some of his fan initiatives have carried over to other tracks and impacted the sport in that way from his unique pre-race shows to making the event a fun time for fans through various promotions.
# Helio Castroneves, a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, says he's considering a move to NASCAR.His contract with Team Penske in the IndyCar series is up after this season. Castroneves tells the Los Angeles Times, though, that such a move is "all about the timing, and I'm not sure if the timing is right.''
# NASCAR announced that it has taken away the second-place finish of Marc Davis, a Joe Gibbs Racing development driver, from Sunday's Camping World Series race at Iowa Speedway for failing post-race inspection. The oil reservoir tank cover was not in place on the top of the lubrication oil reservoir tank encasement.
