Is Joey Logano a possible teamate at Joe Gibbs Racing, or better yet, is he a possible champion? Well, I sure think so, the way he ran at The Rock was a surprising race for everyone because it was his first ever race in the ARCA REMAX Series. He led nearly every lap and never hit the wall, oh yeah! He missed every crash he came within a hundred feet of the crash. If you ask me he should be in the cup series at the Coca-Cola 600 because he's turning eighteen this week so, Joe should open a whole new team for the remainder of the season because Gibbs had a team for developemental drivers like Almirola. But at the same time the intensity and diffuculty of winning one race. Either way, it's a win win situation.
I see him having the raw talent of Kyle Busch with a lot better attitude personality-wise. I think he will be very successful and is championship material.
ReLAX over there... he won an ARCA race with basically a CUP supported team. He looks like he has the stuff, Mark Martin tells us he has the stuff, but it's one nationally televised race verses ARCA competiton. Let's see him against some real competition, with a real bright spotlight on every move, managing tires and staying atop of the set up for 300 miles first. THEN we'll talk about 600...
I don't think Gibbs wants to push this kid too far too early. He's developing right on schedule for them and giving him lots of seat time in ARCA and Nationwide (starting in 2 weeks) is the best course of action. He'll be ready for cup in a year or two.
If you were driving Joe Gibbs equipment in late model and other series races against teams you could fare pretty good too against teams some of which build there cars in a home garage. My feelings are he will get eaten alive at the cup level, kind of like a good college quarterback, sometimes your game doesnt translate.
He's met every challenge so far--and yes, he's got good equipment. I really think that's all we know. Gibbs is smart enough not to rush him. Not all phenoms work out (Bobby Carpenter and Clint Hurdle on the cover of SI come to mind) but some work out spectacularly--Tiger Woods and LeBron James. Only time will tell, but he's going to get a great shot at it eventually.
