I can hear the complaints already that will be featured in Monday's podcast. Why did FOX yank everyone's chain switching from the race to the game and vice versa. Course I'm a Yanks fan first, race fan second so you know what I wanted to see but to wait until the last pitch to switch channels to FX? What the? Why didn't they do that when play resumed? FOX had 2 hours to hype a switch in networks. Jeeez!
Fox tried to thread the needle and give race fans and baseball fans equal share and ended up doing neither.
I did find it funny that during the first hour of the race they kept showing and talking about the baseball game, as if that was their way of apologizing.
I'm just curious, how many of you tried switching to FX or Speed to see if you could get extra race coverage when the game was put back on?
I have put up a blog about how upset I was. Yes I wanted to see the game but I am a race fan first. I wanted to see the pre-coverage of the race and that was sacked due to the baseball game. I hear what you are saying.
I think that move right there refutes NASCAR's claims to be the second biggest American sport behind the NFL. If that were true then they would not have preempted the race for a regular season baseball game, even if it was Boston vs New York. After all, they only play 162 games a year...not like you miss much by missing one game. Look, I love all sports, but I think it's a reality check to some about the real pecking order of the major sports.
I could really care less that it was the Sox vs the Yanks, that was completely unacceptable. the game should've been transfered to FX already. And it felt like an eternity waiting, so of course I leave the room and they go right to the first friggin' lap... unbelievable.
Thankfully I have Nascar Hotpass, but that was totally idiotic that Fox burned the Nascar fans to appease the baseball fans. From what I understand...they were simultaneously broadcasting the ball game on BOTH Fox and FX. I agree Art, they should have showed the game on FX and left the race alone on Fox. I heard they cut to the race AFTER the green flag. That is really bad and the worse thing Fox has done since Digger.
Um...I think the technology is called 'split screen' or maybe 'picture-in-picture'...you get the idea.
That was criminal to leave baseball fans hanging on a 3-2 count, 2 outs, top of the ninth, home field advantage in the biggest rivalry in major league baseball. It was also crap to miss the start of a race in NASCAR's top series.
In this day and age of high tech media operations - that was inexcusable!
Here's what one baseball fan had to say about it...
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!
NY Daily News --
"Cain't be missin' nuna dat racing dem good ol' redneckers be awaitin' on. We alls know how shawt der tenshun span be an how peesed deyd be gettin' seeein' how der show was deelayt. Git dat sheet off da TayVay an poot da racin' awn!!! I wisht I cud rite, cuz I'yda be a sendin' dem jaykazzes a ledder tellin' dem to stik dat baysebawl gaym up derr cornhole!"
Why is it that the national media seems to think that everyone in the world cares about the Yankees and the Red Sox? At one time, I was actually, slightly interested, but after years of being force fed.... ughhh.
I have nascar hotpass but because im in cananda everytime FOX stop showing the race (ad's, baseball games, other stupid FOX stuff) and live Coverage ends and of course i HATE baseball (no offence to anyone) so i had to watch the stills they had on Canadian Hotpass
If this game had counted for anything at all I wouldnt have been so unbelievably infuriated by this. Until playoff time comes around I dont want to see any baseball game taking control of my Nascar coverage. Down with the sox and yanks...Go O's!
