This from Jim Utter of The Charlotte Observer:
"Elliott Sadler will likely not participate in practice or qualifying Friday or Saturday as a result of an injury he sustained over the weekend, team officials said.
Craftsman Truck Series driver Dennis Setzer is scheduled to take Sadler's place in the No. 19 Dodge at Martinsville Speedway. Sadler hopes to be able to race in Sunday's Goody's Cool Orange 500.
The extent of Sadler's injury - or how it occurred - was not immediately known."
– What happened to Elliott? Why all the mystery?
He hurt his back during normal work outs and then frustrated it playing golf. I'm not even going to say where I got this information, but doesn't anybody go to Jayski anymore?
Mark McArdle, GEM's director of competition, was quoted as saying, "Elliott is pretty uncomfortable in any sitting position."
Source: David Newton of ESPN.com.
– Sadler originally suffered the injury on Wednesday.
*Clay makes mention below of a fantastic site that most of us already checkout regularly – Jayski.com. If you don't, you really should (add it to your 'Favorites' along with Rowdy!).*
Just went over to Jayski and discovered that all of the stuff about Sadler hurting his back during a work out and then making it worse by playing golf... it's all gone. Poof! I guess I didn't really read it. Oh well, it's time for qualifying.
Elliott is a great guy, and I wish him luck in recovery...he's also a bit of a wild one...I recall seeing him skateboarding with several kids in the Driver RV section at Michigan International Speedway a few years ago. In any event, Setzer is a master of the short tracks, and should he take the wheel of the #19 today, I would predict a strong finish.
