Off Topic...

What is your favorite all-time gushiest love song? I'm serious. I know there are tons of heavy metal, hard rockin', Country-lovin', alternative thumpin' listeners in the Nation, but surely there is one song (more?) that you stop to listen to, you dig out of your collection to play endlessly, you are compelled to stop when you hear it on the radio. I want to know what it is. What song brings you back to your first love, your wedding, your current flame. Whatever it/they is/are, please share it/them with me. Thank you!

I am so *not* mainstream. Imagine that. I mean, for our wedding, we played "You Are The Everything" by REM for our first dance. We wore combat boots. Something like "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman or "Tunnel of Love" by Dire Straits puts me in that place, but I know that's not the gushy thing you are looking for.

Ok, here's the best I can do: "Your Song" by Sir Elton John...

Zach_me

Mine is a simple little song entitled "It's Rainin' " put out by Rick Derringer (on the same album as "Rock & Roll, Hoochie Coo"). Beats me why I find it so appealing... but something simple and romantic about it. In a jeans & t-shirt kind of way.

"I Love You." Climax Blues Band

Profile

Well, my wife and I sort of bonded over a Sarah McLachlan song called "I Will Remember You." But nothing is better than a sexy jazz singer like Holly Cole.

Me_and_88_avatar

An old '50s doo-wop song, "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos. For a jazzy one..."Peel Me A Grape" - Diana Krall.

This is great everyone! I appreciate your answers. I'm a bit surprised that Bryan Adams' song is such a favorite. Keep the titles and artists coming - I'm learning a lot! And for the record so far, Racer 187 and Max picked songs that hit a strong nerve with me - great choices in my opinion, guys!

Cole Porter's "I Get a Kick Out of You" or "Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love)"

I prefer the versions performed by Ella FItzgerald (in "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Songbook.)

"Stand By Me" Ben E King

Hold You In My Arms - Ray LaMontagne

"Just My Imagination" by The Temptations vividly reminds me of a slow dance on the first date with the woman who I would end up marrying. We were 16 but didn't get married until out of college at age 24. But, a song I continue to appreciate is James Taylor's "Something In the Way She Moves" from his first album in 1968. And another cool, fav song, "Something" by the Beatles (1969, George Harrison), seems to take off on James Taylor's song. Indeed the lyrics of the first lines are almost identical.

Betray by Minor Threat or Anarchy in the UK by the Sex Pistols

Pvgp2008_3

Having been a bass player in a band that covered a few Sex Pistols songs, I can definitely say that Buck has gone a little off topic, or a little off his rocker, you decide. Good one with "Something in the Way She Moves" by JT, Archidude. Probably my second choice.

Reut_pole_homestead

I tend to go the R&B route on love songs. My favorite is "Breathless" by Corrine Bailey Rae. Most Luther Vandross songs strike a chord with me too, especially "One Night with You" and his version of "Always and Forever".

I feel like I'm at my ninth grade dance.

Me_and_88_avatar

Dang...I almost forgot "The Way You Look Tonight" - Frank Sinatra. Have lots of Sinatra on the iPod.

Oh...and "With or Without You" - U2

Anything by Al Green. His stuff is all romantic.

You got me started now Chief! :)

Ninth grade dance? Wasn't that Fresheman Year in High School? Let's see. I think the DJ played Stairway over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

There are two songs that I always think of, of course both are country seeing where I live.

1) Cross My Heart (George Straight), great song from a great movie!

2) The One (Gary Allen), kinda sucks he doesn't perform it sense his late wife's death but it is easilly in the top 5 of my all time fav country songs!

2008_jun_25_012

I've got two.....another Bryan Adams song, Heaven (which was the first song at our wedding) and Elvis, I Can't Help Falling In Love With You (which my husband sang to our daughter every night while he was rocking her to sleep as a baby) That second one actually makes me tear up a little when I hear it...I'm such a sap!

I forgot about one of my favorites "Wind Beneath my Wings" by Bette Midler. That is a beautiful song!

"Come Monday" by Jimmy Buffett, or maybe his "Let's Get Drunk and ..."

Me

Great blog by the way and way to go on the comments. i would have to go with HERE AND NOW BY THE LATE GREAT LUTHER VANDROSS. I told myself that it would be played at my wedding. Even NEXT TIME I FALL by PETER CETERA & AMY GRANT

Raydeen2

"Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers
"Queen" by the Melvins
"Always with me, Always with you" Joe Satriani
"Perfect" Sara Evans
"Ring of Fire" Johnny Cash
"God only Knows" the Beach Boys

"F@*% Her Gently" Tenacious D

Natenkate

Desire - Ryan Adams
Crazy Love - Van Morrison
It may be a tie for these two - Ryan's song is harder to dissect while Van's is more clear but beautifully written and performed. It's hard to listen to Crazy Love because it's one of those songs that was an "our song" type of thing with my first serious girlfriend so I don't really listen to it as much as I used to. Desire is a song I could listen to ten times a day everyday.

Here are some other ones that get me everytime.

Hold You in my Arms - Ray LaMontagne
Danny's Song - Loggins and Messina

These are some songs that I have always liked but took on new meaning once I had a daughter.

Alright for Now - Tom Petty (Full Moon Fever)
You Can Close Your Eyes - James Taylor (Mud Slide Slim)

Many more that I can't think of right now. Man I love music.

Dsc01137-1

I feel extraordinarily late on this...but I'll put in my two cents anyways!

So High by John Legend
So Close performed by Jon McLaughlin
Everything by Michael Buble

So Close is especially one of my favorites because it's from the Disney movie Enchanted :)
