We’re officially halfway through the season now. Thankfully, there aren’t any more plate races for awhile. Man, those are tough to handicap! So, with the Cup regulars heading up to Chicagoland, I feel a little more comfortable in my predictions than last week’s Daytona madness. Here’s my roster for this week:
Jeff Gordon @ 22.3 – Jeff bumped Kenseth before going on to win here two years ago. He finished 9th last year and I’m expecting him to challenge for the win this weekend.
Clint Bowyer @ 21.4 – Clint has two Top-10 finishes in his two races here and should make it three in a row.
Matt Kenseth @ 20.3 – I’m still kicking myself over dropping Matt for Infineon and losing all of that locked-in value. Oh well. Matt’s really produced solid results over the past few weeks and seems to be turning his season around. He finished 2nd here last year and was running up front before a run-in with Gordon ruined his day in 2006. I expect a Top 5 from Matt.
Kurt Busch @ 18.8 – Kurt has rebounded the past couple of weeks. Too soon to tell if that is a trend but he does have consecutive Top 10 runs at Chicagoland. Looking for a Top 15 effort.
Reed Sorenson @ 14.7 – Reed has a fabulous 9.5 avg finish in two starts at Chicagoland. Sure, he’s a bit of a longshot but if it comes down to a fuel-mileage gamble at the end (which happens a lot here) then Reed may just sneak into his first win. Realistically, I’m hoping for a Top 15.
Considered Stewart here, but he seems a little distracted right now. If he rebounds for a good finish here then I’ll likely pick him up next week, but I’m not convinced of his mental makeup right now. Harvick has two straight 4ths here but he’s not really ran that well this season. I’m waiting for a little more consistency before picking him. Burton has been nothing but consistent; however, Jeff’s not pushing for many wins. If he were a little cheaper, he’d definitely be in my lineup. Biffle’s had some tough luck but he’s a good pick for Chicagoland. Also like Carl, but Carl and Kyle are very expensive picks right now. Aside from Sorenson, Casey Mears makes an attractive value pick this week.
