Rowdy’s Take on the News:
Who knew that the “Driver of the Year” folks also had “Driver of the Quarter” awards? Somebody obviously did because Kyle Busch garnered enough votes to win the honor. Voting took place before Saturday night’s Richmond race, but would the results have been any different if votes were submitted Sunday morning? In the voting, Busch took 14 first-place ballots, and none lower than a third place totaling 142 points. Carl Edwards' three wins earned him one first-place vote and a total of 72 points. Danica Patrick grabbed two first place votes and totaled 51 points in third place. Ashley Force, daughter of John Force -- the 1996 Driver of the Year, was fourth in the voting with 49 points.
First of all, let’s give a big Rowdy shoutout to having two women in the Top 4.
Second of all, let’s consider Kyle Busch. Even the Junior Nation has to acknowledge the amazing tear he has been on this season. He hasn’t captured seven checkers in three series by booting his competition out of the way. Yes, he drives on the edge. Often he might be dangling over the edge. As a result, he will be involved in more dust-ups then one might otherwise expect. When you couple that with what appears to be a certain smugness in interviews, it is unlikely that Busch will ever be a fan favorite.
The “Driver of the Year” award is not the “Most Popular Driver” award, however. The DOTY panel has made the only choice they could have. Haven’t they? I put it to you, Rowdy Nation, could you justify naming anybody else “Driver of the Quarter”?

Given the fact that NASCAR has an advantage in this particular contest due to the logistics of the voting and NASCAR's status as 800-pound gorrilla...I would still say Kyle deserved it for this quarter.
to be the man you must beat the man. right now he is the man .woooooooo!
...I am assuming this is an "American" award, right? So no Kimi (not that I would put him over Kyle Busch anyway)...
I was thinking about this very thing this morning. Not only should he be driver of the quarter in all of American motorsports, he is arguably the Story of the Year in NASCAR Sprint Cup. Seems to me we are talking about him every week, one way or another...
X:)
Was there any question who should receive driver of the quarter. KB has been the hottest driver out there, 7 wins speaks for it self.
no I couldnt I think they got it right and 2 women? awesome but this year is not over with yet and the end total is what matters most
I would think this is a no brainer. I may not be too happy with Saturday, but he's putting up wins in 3 very competitive series right now. With that said, I'm sure if the other top 11 Cup drivers decided to run all the truck and nationwide races it might be different. In the end, they don't and he does. In doing that he's putting together a special year. Don't forget, he won Denny's event Thursday night as well (at least i think he did).
Carl can make an argument with 3 solid wins in NASCAR's top series, but 1 did come with a cloud over it. And 2 women in the top 4 is awesome...the times they are a changing.
crickets chirping....Oh, please don't ever change KB's picture to right of this column. It's PERFECT!
