Parking recommendations for Richmond International

Avatar15_150

I hope this isn't too far afield, but I'm planning on going to the IndyCar race at Richmond at the end of June. I heard the guys on the Rowdy podcast suggest that you park outside the gates, not at the track itself. Does anyone have a more specific recommendation for where I might park? Thanks very much!

You need the patented "Bass Masters RIR Parking Navigation Course". I'll get him to give you a quick tutorial in this forum.

Thanks, that would be terrific! I know Bass has much credibility on that topic!

Well, let's not get carried away. "Credibility" might be stretching it a bit...

OK, I'm going to assume you are coming from the west (since the track is East of town), but I guess if you're coming from the east, you can adjust.

The track is on Laburnum Ave. You want to ignore all the signs sending you around on 295 and go in on Laburnum. What I usually do is drive all the way down to the corner of the track and take a left, using the c-store to make a u-turn and head back up Laburnum away from the track. Then I take a right into the first residential neighborhood and park in someone's yard for $15. At the end of the night, you can just hop on Laburnum and drive away. A little extra walking, but you won't get stuck in the parking lot which is a killer.

Of course for the indy race, the traffic will be a lot less . . . so parking at the track might not be so bad.

Thanks, Bass! That's just what I needed. Nothing like the voice of experience.
