Ramones v. 38 Special

Avatar11_150

Since Buck and Bass brought this up I want to get the collective opinion of rowdy nation. My vote goes to .38 Special simply because the lead singer was the brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Ronnie Van Zant. I know that's kind of an irelivant reason. I do like some of the Ramones music also.

WHAT??????????!!!!!! Outrageous! from Wikipedia

"The Ramones were an American rock band often regarded as the first punk rock group.[4][5]"

And

"In 2002, the Ramones were voted the second greatest rock and roll band ever in Spin Magazine, trailing only The Beatles.[12] On March 18, 2002, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[5][13]"

Please. .38 Special was derivative. The Ramones were innovative.

I'm with Cutler, 38 Special were just a copy of several southern-rock bands...they were very good and had some good songs, but nothing new. The Ramones were unlike anything before them, which is the reason the Beatles are mentioned alongside them....nothing like either band had existed before they arrived. The Ramones win this round.

Ramones better than 38 Special? Stones better than he Beatles? Who knows. But I do know this Wild-Eyed Southern Mama's Boy Beat On The Brat after The KKK Took My Fantasy Girl Away while I was still in Rock 'n' Roll High School Rockin' Into The Night. My girlfriend Judy was A Punk who wanted a Teenage Lobotomy while she was in Psycho Therapy waiting to Be Sedated and I held On Loosely until she got Back Where she Belonged. I Just Want To Have Something To do instead of hanging out Rockaway Beach.

That is my 38 cents worth.

Brilliant. So it is decided that the Ramones trump .38 special even given the talent discrepancy. Each genre has better bands such as Molly Hatchet for Southern Rock and The Sex Pistols for punk.

update: Thanks for refrencing the Skynyrd song Gimme Back My Bullets. Its my fave Skynyrd song and my personal theme song.

update two: You all have referenced yet another great song: The Clash's Should I Stay or Should I Go.
