Scanners

Avatar3_150

I'm looking for an affordable scanner for the upcoming Bristol Nationwide race. Any reccomendations?
Could I just plug in my noise reducing headpones to any AM radio & listen to the PRN race coverage?

I'VE SEEN A SCANNER AT THE TRACK THAT IS ABOUT AS BIG AS A CELLPHONE, COMES PRE-PROGRAMED, I FORGET HOW MUCH BUT THE SMALL SIZE MAKES IT WELL WORTH IT. GO TO RACINRADIOS.COM OR RACINGELECTRONICS.COM

I bought a 200 channel scanner at Radio Shack, on sale for $49.99 before I went to the Fontana race. It works great and you can get MRN on it for race coverage. I posted a blog about it which you can read on my page.

TrackScan and Racing Electronics both have several trailers in the vendor area at the track where you can rent or purchase scanners, headphones, and frequency sheets.

Not sure about the noise reducing headphones, but I bought a nice behind-the-head headset at the track last year that I was happy with. They were about $70 I think from TrackScan (and came with the frequency sheet they sell separately for $5). Luckily, I had happend into a RadioShack store a couple weeks before the race and got a $100 Scanner on sale for $30.

At MIS, they just played the MRN coverage over the loudspeakers, but you could certainly just take a portable radio and get that if you don't want to shell out the extra dough for a scanner.

There are lots of scanners on ebay as well.

I was also going to recommend trying Ebay for the scanner as well. I was looking there and they have nice scanners that are decently priced.
My husband tried out the Sprint FanView and he loved it- we go to both Pocano races each year and for the August race I rented him (as part of his birthday present) a FanView and you get the audio and video feed - our seats at Pocano are in the family section off of Turn 3 to give you an idea- we can't see Turn 2 too clearly so anything that went on we saw and heard it.

He loved it so much he wants to rent one when we go to Dover for the first time in September but I told him with the seats we have we may not need it but we'll see..lol.

But getting back to general scanners- in my opinion it's a must have- you can hear everything that's being said. Racing Electronics is also a good place to go looking as well as Ebay.
