Track help -- Talladega

Picture_031

I could use some guidance. . . . I'm going to Talladega in the spring so is there anything I should know about the area like where the best seats are and where to stay and not to stay. . . . And on the way up there is there any cool places to stop? (I'm coming up from Ga.)

Did this forum used to say Martinsville or am I going crazy? That's so weird. I must be going crazy.

I'm thinking about going to Talladega for the first time. It might be next year, but maybe not until 2009.

Sit as high as possible either in Turn 4 or near the start finish line just the Tri-Oval. Can't really help you with where to stay as we drive over from Atlanta. Camping is big but "Rowdy"...Cheaha State Park is about 20 miles away and a fun place to camp without the nutty crowds...Have fun; look for me in a Rowdy t-shirt.

TSS is actually in Lincoln. Some campgrounds are not REALLY in walking distance but you can ride in your vehicle all the same from your campsite. If you get a golf cart ride, they are 5-$10 each person. Driving in is ok too. If you park inside you will be directed where to go. Traffic all four lanes going one direction so get what you need early. All parking inside is easily walkable.(good place for tailgaiting) If decide to in, get there around 7am Central time. It is better than Bristol or Daytona for ease of parking and accessibility. The Infield and the back stretch are known for the wild crowd that sits and stays there. Seats, Higher the better, UNLESS you plan to get close photos, in that case the Tri oval hill E-J to B'ham sec ok. Towers are always higher, lower seats in tower are pretty good for photos. Don't waste your money on VIP Pit tour unless it is driver specific. Motorsports Hall of Fame in front of the track is good. Don't plan on leaving quickly. Trust me there are more leaving than there were coming in. It's best to just hang out a few hours before trying to leave. You cannot see very much at all in TALLADEGA Grandstand. The back stretch is ok, but you cannot see the drivers hanging out with there friends before the race, the winner's circle, introductions, turn 4--where alot of cars flip and roll when they hit grass, nor the start finish. Pits are closer to tri oval toward Birmingham sec. Don't bring bottles or big bags, cans ok there, although this has been questionable to me. Bring zoom lense or binoculars. This is a large track and you will need them in order to see the other side irrigardless of where you sit. Hope you get them soon. Vendors and scalpers have already bought them out. Remember: SUNBLOCK,

Thank for the info. :)

Hello - Dega is my home track and I actually prefer sitting closer to the track. Tallaedega is big so chances are even in the nosebleed seats you're not going to see everything anyway. My suggestion is to find a section near the start/finish line with a good view of pit road. We sat in the lower Birmingham section two weeks ago and could see the cars as they exited turn five, through the trioval and into turns one and two. I've sat near the top and I've sat on the backstrech (the cheap seats - not recommended!). For any future ventures, here's what the locals know - instead of coming in from I-20, hit 280 in Birmingham and drive to Childersberg and come up to the track from the south. You can pretty much follow the signs to DeSoto caverns. Once you get past the caverns (on highway 76), take 21 north to highway 77. This will bring you to speedway boulevard from the south, You can also jump on Providence Road (they'll have signs out on raceday) to Jackson Trace road, park in the south parking lots. 99% of the traffic will be heading north when the race is over.
